2023-2024 Choir Syllabus
Welcome to CHOIR I am VERY excited to work with all of you this year. This will be a superb year!
You are here; now please give it 100%. I will do the same for you.
Contact: William (Bill) Bocian, Gilmanton K-12 Music Teacher, [email protected]
Expectations:
Students enrolled in choir are expected to participate in all scheduled performances. This may include performance outside of our regular school schedule.
Daily/Weekly Participation:
You will be assessed daily on your preparation and participation in class. I expect you to be prepared to sing your assigned music. You may be asked to sing some of it in small groups. You must follow classroom rules and contribute to this group by participating to the best of your own ability.
Group Singing Assessments
You will be tested several times per quarter on music related items and the music we are performing in class. We will review items to be tested on during our regular class work. Please be prepared to sing in front of other students (in small groups). This is the only way I am able to assess you.
Choir Course Description
In order to build the choir program at Gilmanton, we will have varied talent levels in each choir class. I will give the more advanced students individualized work to keep them focused while helping those who may be behind to catch up. We will be singing a varied repertoire of music this year.
Part of the learning process is to study and appreciate a diverse selection of musical styles.

Solo and Ensemble: (Virtual last year - will have more information soon)
Students will be encouraged to perform at Solo and Ensemble festival. This festival registration is paid for by the school, however if a student fails to complete the performance, they will be asked to pay this amount back to the school. Solos are usually $8-10 and Ensembles are $14-16 depending on the classification. An accompanist will be hired for students to use.
If we all work together with an attitude of cooperation and flexibility, we can make the Gilmanton Choir program one of the best in Northern Wisconsin!
